What is the ASVAB: The ASVAB is a multiple-aptitude battery test that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success, as well as career measures and occupational career pathways and exploration.  The test is also used to measure Civilian and Military Occupation Routes.  The ASVAB is offered free of charge to any 10th – 12th grade student at Ambridge Senior High School. The test lasts approximately 3 hours and will be conducted during the school day at the Field House.  Please note, students in 10th grade will not be contacted nor scores released for any recruitment purposes.  10th Grade scores and results are for career exploration and measures ONLY. Further information can be found at: https://www.asvabprogram.com

Scores Interpretation: Once the exam has concluded, all students participating on the test can participate in a Career Exploration session with their individualized test results on February 9, 2021 or February 10, 2021 at the High School Field House.  This guide includes an interest inventory that will help students use their interests and ASVAB scores to explore both Civilian and Military Occupations and identify areas of strengths in the occupational field.

What is the PSAT 8/9: The PSAT 8/9 tests the same skills as the SAT designed specifically for ninth grade students. The PSAT 8/9 also measures academic strengths, reviews readiness for college academics and provides areas needing remediation prior to sitting for the SAT. Thus students have time to tackle these academic areas long before they take the SAT. Students over 13 can share their scores with Khan Academy® to create a personalized practice and tutoring experience. It is the best way to prepare for other tests in the SAT Suite of Assessments, and it is free.

Deadline: Deadline to sign-up for testing is January 15, 2021. In the event of a COVID-19 closure, details about a future testing date will be communicated.

What is the PSAT 10: The PSAT 10 is great practice for the SAT as it tests the same skills and knowledge as the SAT—in a way that makes sense for the tenth grade student level.  The PSAT 10 provides a score report students can use to personalize their Khan Academy® SAT practice.  The score reports also list which AP courses students can enroll in at the conclusion of the exam, and areas needed for improvement for the SAT.  It is encouraged any student wishing to pursue post-secondary education or AP classes to sit for the exam to learn their skills prior to the enrollment or SAT test.

Additional Information: In the event of a COVID-19 closure, details about a future testing date will be communicated. Attendance, safety measures and pre-cautions during check-In will be taken at the Field House. Masks and social distancing are required at all times.
