Windows/Office Activation Errors - Ambridge Area School District

Windows/Office Activation Errors

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

There have been several tickets in the helpdesk reporting activation errors.  We reported the Windows activation errors at the end of January, but now we are getting tickets about the Office activation errors.  The Office activation errors are for the desktop application ONLY.   It is my understanding, that if the student uses Office365 in the cloud, they will not receive these errors.   Windows and Office are using a local licensing server.  The device needs to “check in” with the server to validate the license.   If the device is off site for an extended period, then the device cannot check in and needs to connect to our wireless network.

A temporary work around is to ignore the Windows error and only use the cloud version of Office (Office365) until the device is back on-site.  When the students return to hybrid during the week of March 1st the devices will check in and the errors should disappear.

However, if you would like to resolve the issue now, you can access our network from any school parking lot.   Once in the school parking lot please follow these steps:

  • Login to the device.
  • Connect the device to the “AASD” or “AASD Outdoor Guest”wireless network.
  • Restart the device
    • Select the Start Button (Windows Icon) in the lower left corner
    • Select the Power button icon.
    • Select Restart.
  • Log back into the device.
  • Restart the device a second time.
    • Select the Start Button (Windows Icon) in the lower left corner
    • Select the Power button icon.
    • Select Restart.
  • Log back into the device.
  • Confirm that the activation error no longer appears

If you are still having issues, the device will need to be dropped off to the Tech Department for evaluation/repair.  The Tech Department office is located at the High School and there are two ways of getting the device to us.

  1. Drop the device off at the High School Security Desk between 7AM and 2:30PM.
  2. Drop the device off at the office of your child’s school.  We make regular trips to each building and will pick up the device and transfer it to our office at the High School

Thank you for your cooperation,

The AASD Technology Department
