Course Selection and Scheduling - Ambridge Area School District

Course Selection and Scheduling

guidance updates

Starting on January 18, 2022, the Ambridge Area High School will be taking an electronic approach to the course selection and scheduling process for the 2022-2023 School Year. To ensure your student meets their educational goals and achievements, several steps in the scheduling process will occur. Academic Teachers will first discuss and meet with your student regarding the recommended core course for next school year, including but not limited to: English, Math, Science, Language, and Social Studies recommendations.

We encourage any student or parent/guardian who has questions about the core subject areas to reach out to the Teacher of Record to discuss next year’s progression of courses directly to answer all questions thoroughly. Once a meeting has taken place, the Teacher of Record will enter the recommended core course based on their academic goals, achievement, and course progression for Tyler’s 2022-2023 school year. Students and parents/guardians will be able to review the core classes selected for the 2022-2023 school year in Tyler and discuss any changes with the academic teacher of record before finalizing the course for scheduling.

Students will receive instruction during the in-class meetings on completing electives or classes they are interested in taking for the 2022-2023 school year and where to find information on each elective description. Students will have several weeks to review electives, submit their choices at the district level, and review the courses for their final course selection. Students will also be meeting with their assigned High School Grade Level Counselor for the 2022-2023 school year to discuss scheduling during in-class meetings at the district level. As per below, the district timeline for scheduling will be as follows January 18, 2022 – February 4, 2022:

  • Academic Teacher of Record will meet with your student to discuss next year’s progressions and schedule the 2022-2023 core academic subject class
  • High School Counselors will meet for in-class meetings to discuss the scheduling of electives and the class selection process for the 2022-2023 school year
  • The window closes on February 4, 2022; individual student sheets will be printed and mailed home to the parent or guardian with course selection and classes for the 2022-2023 school year for review
  • Any changes are to be submitted to the Guidance office by February 18, 2022
  • If a parent wants to override a teacher recommendation, the proper paperwork will be available for sign-off.

Once courses are finalized, the administration will create a master schedule and assign your students’ schedules based on recommended courses’ needed. Completed schedules will be available in May 2023 for review.

As a reminder, The 2022-2023 Course of Studies Book with course explanation, pre-requisites, and department information is available for review online at: www.ambridge.k12.pa.us – Services – Guidance and Counseling – Course Selection Book. You will also find a power-point with step-by-step instructions under scheduling for your review.

Please note that every effort is made to create a schedule that will accommodate your students’ requests, understanding that this is an intricate process and alternative course selections may be necessary. Classes are based on demand and may not continue if low demand or requests for 2022-2023 are accounted for in the selection process.

We hope that this approach will streamline our scheduling process for next year. In addition, we invite you to view the PowerPoint that was shown to students. It is located on the AAHS counseling page. Please direct your questions for scheduling to the correct school personal below for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year:
