Letters to Legislatures - Ambridge Area School District

Letters to Legislatures

Community Stakeholders,

Please find a letter with statistics and information, specific to the negative impacts that the charter and cyber schools are having on our district. Currently, the district costs to support students who leave the Ambridge bricks and mortar to attend these outside options is over 7 million dollars per year. This is not sustainable. While district administrators and the school board are working diligently to encourage our families to commit to the district or return from these outside placements, we still need our legislators to create a more fair and equitable process for funding the charter schools.

You often see advertisements that suggest these placements are free. While they are free to families, they continue to cost the district much more than it costs to educate them in the district. We take pride in our academic programs and offerings. We have increased AP course offerings at the high school level as well as the number of students participating in these courses. We have four preK classrooms that are fully funded by federal monies. We also have a very successful primary literacy program, A2i, which is preparing our students to be reading at or above grade level by third grade. This ability assures that students will be much more successful and more likely to graduate with the literacy needed for success in higher grades.

I hope that you will take the time to review the attached letter. Please feel free to revise, but consider sending this to state legislators. The contacts for those representatives can also be found on this page.

Thank you for your continued support for public education and the Ambridge Area School District.
